How frustrating it must have been for Saul! They had accepted him in Damascus—but then those believers had never experienced persecution from Saul. In Jerusalem they had, and they were understandably wary. Enter Barnabas! Barnabas was prepared to accept Saul. Here was a man with a loving heart, prepared (as Paul himself later put it) to ‘bear all things, believe all things, hope all things, endure all things’ (1 Corinthians 13:7). He could even dare to hope that Saul had been converted. There is
